Salt is a Spice, You Know

A few weeks ago I attended a conference for work. At the beginning we all went around the room and introduced ourselves by revealing something about ourselves that no one else in the room knew. I have done this exercise before, but by the time they got to me, in the back of the room, I had nothing to say.

First, I have to admit, I wasn't thinking about it. I learned a long time ago that if I am trying to think of my own answer, it means I am not listening to the folks that are talking. And, I also figured this might be the most interesting part of the entire day (turned out I was right), so I should pay attention.

When they did get to me, I also had nothing to say, because, well, I don't think I am that interesting - at least not anymore. I live the life of a suburban working mom. I go grocery shopping, I play with my kids, we do projects. As recently established by a "Day in the Life" post on another blog, my day-to-day existence is just not all that exciting. My girls are super-cute and interesting. But a room full of mostly male sales guys and executives (okay, or really any roomful of people) doesn't really want to hear about how "my daughter, LP, is learning to read" or "my baby, AK, swims like a fish."

Perhaps I could have made an impression by saying, "I gave birth without drugs." That might have scared them.

So, tell me, dear readers, what makes you interesting and unique that is consistent with your current life? Not something dredged up from the past (e.g., I made the daily announcements at my high school or I was a state champion wrestler), but something real and from today.

I am going to go with:
I find joy in baking with my daughters and am looking forward to making Hamantaschen with them this weekend to celebrate Purim.

Still not overly exciting, but I guess maybe it is the little things.

I just had this exact conversation with my neighbor! This phase of life is great, but not what I would call exciting. Maybe that's due to the utter lack of tequila shots.

It's funny, some people think it is "sad" when life is ordinary. But I love that my big friday night was sitting in a school gym with 5, 6, and 7 year olds snuggled in sleeping bags watching a dvd with bad sound. Live is good - we are blessed!

I would have scared too with the no drugs childbirth, but that's just me. I guess my claim to fame would be that I was a lion, tiger, and (no not bears) rhino zoo keeper.

I hate those ice-breaker things. I'm always stumped. Did you know our old HR director (who shall remain nameless here) used to be a biker babe and actually had a photograph taken in a biker magazine? Now that was a tale I would kill for!
